Step 1: Choose the Location
Start by deciding where you want to install your towel bar. Ideally, the towel bar should be mounted at a comfortable height, typically around 48 inches above the floor. Use a measuring tape to ensure you’re placing it at the right height, and use a pencil to lightly mark the location of the mounting brackets on the wall.
Step 2: Mark the Anchor Points
Most towel bars come with mounting brackets that need to be screwed into the wall. Hold the mounting brackets against the wall at your desired location, and use a pencil to mark where the screws will go. Be sure to use a level to check that the towel bar will be straight before marking your spots.
Step 3: Drill Pilot Holes
Using a drill or screwdriver, make small pilot holes where you marked the wall. These pilot holes should be slightly smaller than the width of the hollow wall drive anchors. This step is crucial because it makes it easier to insert the anchors into the wall and ensures a secure hold.
Step 4: Insert the Hollow Wall Drive Anchors
Take your hollow wall drive anchors (like Elephant Anchors) and gently insert them into the pilot holes. You may need to lightly tap them in with a hammer until they are flush with the wall. Once the anchors are in place, use a screwdriver to turn them clockwise, which will cause the anchors to expand behind the wall. This expansion creates a firm grip on the hollow wall, providing the necessary support for the towel bar.
Step 5: Attach the Mounting Brackets
Once the hollow wall anchors are securely in place, align the mounting brackets with the anchor points and insert the screws. Tighten the screws with a drill or screwdriver until the brackets are securely fastened to the wall. Be sure not to overtighten the screws, as this could damage the drywall.
Step 6: Attach the Towel Bar
Now that the brackets are securely mounted to the wall, it’s time to attach the towel bar. Depending on the design of your towel bar, you may need to slide it onto the brackets or screw it into place. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for this final step.
Step 7: Check for Stability
Once the towel bar is installed, give it a gentle tug to ensure it’s firmly attached to the wall. If everything feels secure, you’re done!
